How to appeal a denied AirCover damage claim
Many hosts get an AirCover denial, ask why, and receive a different reason each time: 'not listed', then 'personal property', then 'wear and tear'. A denial is not always final. This guide explains why claims get denied, what evidence tends to matter, and how to put together a stronger appeal.

Act fast: timing matters
Airbnb expects hosts to report damage quickly, generally within 14 days of the guest's checkout and before the next guest checks in where possible. Missing the window is one of the most common reasons a claim fails, so start documenting the moment you find the damage, even if you are still deciding whether to file.
Common denial reasons and what they usually mean
Wear and tear
Airbnb sees the damage as normal aging. Show the item's condition before the stay, its age, and why this damage is sudden, not gradual.
Not enough evidence
Airbnb wanted more proof. Add dated before-and-after photos, receipts or replacement quotes, and messages with the guest.
No guest responsibility
Airbnb isn't convinced this guest caused it. Check-in photos, cleaner reports and the timeline between stays help connect the damage to the stay.
Item not covered
Some items or situations are excluded. Read the reason carefully; sometimes the item was simply described in a way that made it look excluded.
What makes an appeal stronger
Answer the exact reason given, point by point, in calm and factual language. Put your evidence in order: the listing condition before the stay, the damage after, what it costs to repair or replace, and every message with the guest. Keep a copy of everything you send. If Airbnb asked for 'documentation' without saying what qualifies, give receipts, quotes from a repair company, and clear photos with dates.
When the guest refuses to pay
Before AirCover steps in, Airbnb usually asks you to request the money from the guest through the Resolution Center. Keep that request short, specific and polite. A guest's refusal is normal and is often the step that lets the case move to Airbnb.

Common questions
Can a denied AirCover claim be reversed?
Sometimes. Denials can be reconsidered when the host answers the stated reason with clearer evidence. No one can guarantee a result; it depends on the facts and Airbnb's decision.
How long do I have to file an AirCover claim?
Airbnb generally expects damage to be reported within 14 days of the guest's checkout. Check the current AirCover for Hosts terms for your listing and act as early as you can.
What evidence does Airbnb want?
Dated before-and-after photos, receipts or repair quotes, and messages with the guest are the core. Answer the specific denial reason with evidence for that point.
How do I request a custom quote?
Submit your request and our team will assess your case and email a custom quote. Work begins only after you approve. Payment follows the terms of your approved quote.
Was your damage claim denied?
